Terroir Festival in the News Register

One of our presenters, Emily Grosvenor, who will be speaking on how to put together a fiction or nonfiction book proposal, wrote a Viewpoint opinion essay for the News-Register on the relationship between place and character.

“Places change people. In fiction, we see concretely how setting affects a character’s action, identity, relationships, learning, and development. Pick up a person with two hands and drop them down in any other setting and more will change than their geography. There can be no Harry without Hogwarts, no Huck without the muddy Mississippi, no Heathcliff without the misty moors, no Laura without her Little House on the Prairie.”
